27th Southern Bell Forum Begins Jan. 9

Nearly 100 debate teams from across the country will descend on campus beginning January 9 to participate in the 27th Annual Southern Bell Forum hosted by MBA Debate. This exclusive national tournament is an invitation-only event reserved for elite competition. "There a handful of national tournaments that generate a buzz in the debate world, said assistant varsity debate coach Alan Coverstone. "The Southern Bell Forum is one of those events that teams strive to reach; it's definitely a top five tournament in the country."

In addition to the policy debate tournament (one of the top five in the nation), a Lincoln-Douglas and extemporaneous speaking round robin will also take place. The public is encouraged to attend and see high school debate at the highest level.

Just a few reminders from the Admission Office:

If you have not done so already, please send your application form back to MBA just as soon as you can so that we can start a file about your son. The deadline for all application materials is February 2.
Please make sure that your son's present school sends us his transcript and teacher evaluation materials by the Feb. 2 deadline.
If you have not scheduled an interview for your son yet, please call Kit Lechleiter at 615-369-5311. The main interview day is February 7.
If your son has not come for a half day visit or you would like to schedule a second visit, please call Kit Lechleiter.
Coffee and Tours continue every Thursday at 10 a.m. for parents. No reservation required.
Remember to schedule an ISEE test date for your son. The ISEE test date at MBA is Jan. 24. You may register online by clicking here.

Basketball in Beech Tourney Dec. 27

The MBA Varsity Basketball team takes the floor again on December 27 as they take part in the Beech High School Tourney. The Big Red will tip off against Memphis Sheffield in the opening round at 2:30 p.m. Play continues through the weekend and will conclude on Monday, December 29. The team closes out Winter Break with a 3:30 p.m. home tilt against Knoxville Webb on January 3.
