Foucault in the Classroom | Powerpoint on The Natural

The storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, marked the beginning of the French Revolution and the climax of Dickens' historical novel A Tale of Two Cities. Angered by the scarcity of food, an unfair tax system, a government that favored the rich, and a legal system that provided for imprisonment without trial, a mob of Parisians rose up and took the medieval fortress that represented royal power at the heart of the city. In his novel, Dickens portrays the human as well as the political aspects of oppression and revenge.
